Two Pharmasave locations in Lethbridge are the first pharmacies in Alberta to participate in a new and innovative e-prescribing service: PrescribeIT™. This service provides more effective medication management by enabling prescribers to transmit a prescription electronically between a prescriber’s electronic medical record and a patient’s pharmacy of choice, reducing the need for the printing of paper prescriptions. Jay Johal, a Pharmacy Manager at one of the Lethbridge Pharmasaves, found PrescribeIT to be “an exciting opportunity for patient care and pharmacy management.” Johal added that, “in addition to streamlining pharmacy workflow, it will likely improve patient compliance and convenience.” Pharmacist Notasha Borlan said she is delighted with the ease at which the new e-prescribing service integrated with the pharmacy management system and workflow process. “It will increase communication effectiveness between pharmacists and physicians,” says Borlan.

Pharmasave is looking forward to an increased number of Pharmasave pharmacies adopting e-prescribing. “We’re thrilled that Pharmasave is embracing PrescribeIT and we look forward to seeing it continue momentum as it rolls out to additional communities across the country,” says Michael Green, President and CEO, Canada Health Infoway.

Pharmasave is the only banner in Canada to launch PrescribeIT™ in 2 provinces. In addition to Alberta, 4 Pharmasave pharmacies in Ontario are also participating in this e-prescribing service.

PrescribeIT™ was developed by Canada Health Infoway, a not-for-profit organization funded by the Federal government to develop, operate and maintain this national e-prescribing service.

Canada Health Infoway is working with Health Canada, the provinces and territories and industry stakeholders to develop, operate and maintain the national e-prescribing service known as PrescribeIT™. PrescribeIT™ will serve all Canadians, pharmacies and prescribers and provide safer and more effective medication management by enabling prescribers to transmit a prescription electronically between a prescriber’s electronic medical record (EMR) and the pharmacy management system (PMS) of a patient’s pharmacy of choice.
